Logitech G29 Racing Wheel PS4 Review | $350

Logitech G29 Racing Wheel PS4 Review | $350

The Logitech G29 Force Feedback Racing Wheel was released in June of 2015 for the PS3, PC, and PS4 as a follow up to the highly acclaimed Logitech G27 for the PS3.

Logitech had not released a new wheel into the racing peripheral market in 6 years and now they have crafted two new wheels the G29 for the PlayStation and the G920 for the xbox One.

What You Need To Know

The G29 is comparable to the G27, except the shifter doesn’t come standard, you need to purchase it separately. While the wheel looks a bit toyish overall it delivers a decent racing experience and has smooth and strong force feedback. The leather wrapped wheel rim is a nice touch and I like that it comes standard with a 3 pedal set that includes a progressive brake mod.

Build and Quality

Logitech G29 Force Feedback WheelThe Logitech G29 has solid craftsmanship and the hand stitched leather rim provides lots of grip on the wheel. The center column is made of aluminum and has a nice brushed black finish. The button layout was well thought of and makes it pretty easy to access your buttons on the fly.

The paddle shifters feel like they have an improved damper in them from the G27 and even about a 1/4 inch shorter throw, which will help you shift faster.

The pedals are metal and they sit on a plastic base. Each pedal is weighted differently to simulate what a real car feels like. I am a bit disappointed in the pedal resolution (8 bits), which definitely affects the precision when braking. The one area I do appreciate with the pedals is that bottom of the pedal base offers some spikes that flip out, which will help secure your pedals on a carpet if you are not hard mounting them.

“The force feedback is fairly heavy and creates a nice feel for the car and the road”

Pros vs Cons

  • Comes standard with a 3 pedal set and progressive brake
  • Logitech reduced the throw of the paddles shifters by 1/4 inch
  • Hand stitched leather rim is well padded and feels good
  • Better button layout than the G27
  • 900 degrees of rotation
  • Force feedback is smooth
  • Good internal components that will last a long time
  • Works natively on the PS4

  • Looks like a toy
  • Rim can not be swapped out
  • The brake feels to heavy at the tail end
  • Sometimes the helical gearing creates a clanking sound
  • They should have offered this wheel with the shifter included
  • No more components being released to work with G29

Who Should Buy The Logitech G29 Force Feedback Racing Wheel

If you were a fan of the classic Logitech G27 than this wheel is pretty similar. As far as other brands go, what makes the Logitech a nice choice compared to the Thrustmaster T300Rs is the the G29 comes standard with 3 pedals and a leather rim…no upgrading required.

If you were looking for a racing wheel and pedals that you don’t need to add on anything except a shifter, then the G29 would be money well spent.

Logitech G29 Steering Wheel Review Conclusion

The G29 is a solid choice if you are looking to get a wheel that comes standard with a 3 pedal set. The shifter does need to be purchased separately and I wish logitech included it standard with the wheel like they did the G27. Overall the G29 offers a nice driving experience and the force feedback feels pretty strong.

While I was disappointed in the pedal resolution, I am impressed with how much better the brake feels from the G27. I also like that they shortend up the throw on the paddle shifters by a 1/4 inch and moved all of the buttons onto the wheel.

“I already like the G27, I was surprised how much more I like the G29”
The Logitech G29 is well reviewed at Amazon with a 4 star rating from 80 customer reviews. I have to agree with the customers on this one, it’s above average, but has some limitations.
